Regarding my post, "The Right is Wrong", I just wanted to add that it may have been a long time in coming, but I am glad to see that some American conservatives (the REAL ones, not the neo-con type) are beginning to--as Dear Abby used to say--wake up & smell the coffee...but, I guess in this case, the smell is more akin to the fetid stench of a morally-poisonous, parasite-laden brew of faux ideology concocted by cynical, selfish, fear-driven-money-loving opportunists out to serve their own special interests by leeching off a valid political belief system (that I nearly always disagree with, but which I can respect because I know that--like me--they believe what they believe because they love their country, and want to make it better. These TRUE conservatives and I want the best for our country...we just disagree on how to do it).
I know it may be hard to believe this--being as how I am as far away from "conservative" as Sarah Palin is from sanity--but I really do hope more true conservatives begin to smell the rot coming from the slow-but-sure death of their no-longer Grand Old Party, and get the fire in their collective political gut to not only stand up and say, "Enough is enough," but to fight to take back what was theirs.
I am a (mostly) proud Democrat & progressive, but I am--first and foremost--a (mostly) proud American, and it is my country (& even the world) that would reap the benefits of a strong (at least) two-party system. A civil political discourse amongst people who may not hold the same point of view can only make this country stronger.
With those who run today's American Right, it's impossible to have a real discussion of the issues of the day when they're not even interested in talking or compromising. Believing that they honestly know what's best for everyone else, bound-for-"glory", they proudly wear their blinders, cavalierly ignoring the will of all but the truest of believers, forcing their neo-con mirage of Utopia onto the rest of us--for our own good, of course! (<----Sarcasm)

Tegan has such a good face - play .-)
Thank you all so much for the sparkly snowflakes! ♥
I took a long nap this afternoon so now I am barely sleepy at all. Oh, my sleep schedule, why can you never stay normal? SIGH. Anyway. Instead of sleeping I am reading fic, and I recommend this particular story for your enjoyment:
Sudden Influx of Dating by
perpet_fic. Star Trek XI. Scotty/Chekov. PG-13 (the author lists it as R, but there is nothing R-rated about it).
Don't worry if you've never even considered this pairing before. It doesn't matter, I promise! It's all about shenanigans! And accidental boyfriends! And decidedly not performing experiments on beagles! And abusing fruit! And Terminator! And did I mention the shenanigans? They are shenanigans of the variety that occur when two people who are entirely too smart for their own good have a lot of spare time on their hands and have no idea they are secretly dating. It's completely adorable and made me laugh several times.

I was posting an answer to a discussion on
betterwiththree concerning fic with the Eleventh Doctor in it, and that got me to wondering, since I'm still having trouble accepting Matt Smith as the Doctor. So I as this is my first regeneration so to speak (I came in the door through Torchwood first, and fell for Ten first, but I love Nine, and recently Four just as much), I thought I would put the question out there to Old (and New) Who fans alike.
When your Doctor regenerated did you have trouble accepting the new Doctor? Were you resentful because your Doctor left? Or did you fall just as much for the new Doctor as you did 'your' or 'first' Doctor?

Can anyone tell me if this episode is the ( maybe spoilerish question )
Midway through Genesis of the Daleks, the Doctor (as played by Tom Baker) has the opportunity to destroy all of the Daleks in one fell swoop. He has a wonderful soliloquy about whether or not he has the right to destroy an entire species, even if they're the Daleks.
If I were there, the conversation would have been a lot shorter:
Doctor: holds bomb wires in each hand Dare I have the right?
Me: Yup! yoinks wires away from the Doctor, blows up Dalek nursery
I suspect I'd have gotten along a little better with Nine...

I have just returned from my work's Christmas meal: there was a fancy-dress theme of "any character from stage, screen or book" and there were many impressive efforts from couples such as Shrek and Fiona, Popeye and Olive (and three month old baby as Swee' Pea), and Pooh Bear and A Bee.
I was seated next to a colleague's boyfriend: he eventually revealed that with the (black?) suit, trainers, gelled hair and umbrella(?) he was the tenth Doctor and my colleague was Rose. He expressed embarassment at having to walk to the restaurant in such outrageous attire.
Given that I had walked to the venue dressed as Noel Coward And His Time Travelling Pinking Shears from the BBC Eighth Doctor Novel "Mad Dogs and Englishmen", I had little sympathy.
Edit Also "Rose"'s mum was Matt Smith's teacher

an early christmas present from me :D my favorite casserole! (and only one I will eat) it's super easy and super easy to customize how you would like it!
tater tot casserole!
1-1.5 lbs ground beef (or other ground meat of choice. turkey is good too) use more or less if you want more/less meat
1 can cream of chicken soup (or other cream of soup. pick your favorite!)
~ 1/2 can milk (use less at first. you can always add more, but you can't take some out.)
2 cups (1 pint/450 ml) frozen corn (or other frozen vegetable. pick your favorite!) use more or less if you would like more/less vegetables
1 bag frozen tater tots
1 tbsp minced onion (optional) (~half raw onion chopped)
shredded cheese (optional)
salt&pepper (to taste)
preheat oven to 350F (350 Fahrenheit = 180 Celsius = 4 Gas Mark = Moderate)
brown beef on stovetop or in microwave with minced onion if being used.
spread browned meat on bottom of 9x13 (~22x33 cm) pan
mix soup, milk and vegetables together and pour/spread over meat
layer tater tots on top in neat rows, as close and as tightly as possible
bake for 30-55 minutes or until middle is bubbly. (depending on how much meat used, if you thaw the corn out, etc) top with cheese (if wanted), season with salt and pepper, eat and enjoy! :D

Just before the end of school today, the teacher that I work with appeared with a calculator and asked me what pi was. He said he wanted to find out what the square root of that was.
I asked which child requested the information, and then asked said child, "Have you watched 'Midnight' recently"?
They nodded sheepishly.
I then had to explain to the teacher what the significance was, as he does not watch Doctor Who.
